Most candles are not vegan. Candles often use Stearic Acid and Beeswax to harden them and increase their scent throw. Vegan candles will be made of Soy, Rapeseed, Coconut wax , or a combination of these natural vegetable waxes.
Animal fats and Beeswax are the main ingredients in candles that you need to be aware of. They're added to harden the wax candle and give it opacity but they're not vegan -friendly.
Beeswax, although a natural wax made from beeswax , is still produced using bee labor. The honeycomb in the hive of bees is removed in order to make beeswax. The bees are an unpaid labor force and also lose their food source. Candles containing beeswax are not vegan-friendly.
These ingredients are easy to identify if they're directly listed on the candle. Sometimes, however, animal derivatives aren't clearly labeled as such.
Stearic acid, tallow, and other common animal-derived ingredients are used in candles. Is Stearic acid vegan-friendly? Candles containing Stearic Acid are not usually vegan. Stearic Acid can be derived from cows, sheep, pigs, and other fats. It can also be made from coconuts (vegan friendly), although it is not always clearly stated. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Vegan natural candles are made with a wax base that is either soy, coconut, or rapeseed. Our preferred wax for vegan candles is soy wax. Soy is vegan. Soy wax, a vegetable-based wax made from soybeans, is vegan. After the beans have been harvested, they are cleaned and rolled into flakes. Soy oil is then extracted and hydrogenated to make the soy wax and finally soy candles , which are vegan-friendly.
What candle wicks have vegan ingredients? You can make candles from either cotton or wood. Cotton wick is vegan because it is made from cotton. Wood is another vegan-friendly option. Wooden wicks can be used to make a relaxing crackling sound when they are burned. You can have fireplace vibes without having to actually chop wood.
You can make vegan scented candle with essential oils or fragrance oils. While fragrance oils can be synthetic and man-made, essential oils can only be extracted from natural substances and plants. We offer 100% pure essential oils in natural wax candles.
Let's take it one step further. Did you know that glue used to make stickers and tape often contain animal products? Yes, that's right. This is a crucial element to consider if you are going to be checking your candle. Even though vegan candle labels are still a niche market, they are rapidly growing.
Let's finally get to ink. Did you know ink can contain animal bones char, animal gelatin, animal glycerin, and shellac? Yes, that's right. We are not sure why printers do not use vegetable-based ink. But rest assured that all our labels are powered with water and vegetables.
Vegan candles offer many benefits. They were made without harm to any animals.
Research has shown that paraffin wax candles can produce carcinogenic compounds. Avoiding carcinogens is best.
A soy candle or soy wax candle burns cleaner. Soy wax, a renewable resource, is better for you than for the environment. Paraffin candles and beeswax candles have a higher melting point than soy wax, thereby a soy wax candle will emit your favorite scent for a longer time.
